Old Acquisitons: The Un-Pantry

Some of you will remember the previous blog about the Un-pantry so I thought I’d follow up WITH SOME “action shots”  AND let ALL OF you know how well it’s working out for us.  It’s working so well, that I think we’re planning on keeping it permanetly.  It’s sized nicely FOR the two OF us AND holds ALL the can goods neatly.  AS DHB noted previously, its very handy WHEN you don’t hve poke through a lot of stuff looking for a can.  It forces you to be a lot neater than that.

Gift from the MIL

Well, she’s not really the MIL just yet but she’s DHB’s mother. And she did get us this lovely item to go into the restoration. And you’ll notice that Penny the Ancient has to come and see if she approves of this thing or not. What you’re looking at here will become my new pantry because having a pantry is just a necessity. You can’t store food properly in cabinets. Cabinets are for dishes and utensils and pans and stuff. And if you have stuff in them, you don’t have room for food and vice versa. If I fill up the cabinets with food, where do I put the food processor, the stand mixer, the pasta machine, the vacuum sealer and all the other “tools”….

And while this is a lovely piece, I could probably disassemble with my bare hands some toothpicks. It’s been left in a very dry place and wood has shrunk. The glue is all but completely gone. If I took one finger and poked it in the right spot, it might just collapse completely. So I don’t feel bad about reworking it at all. It either goes my way or out to the trash heap. At least my way, it gets reused and treated with some love.
