New Acquisitions: Antique Lighting: Sconces

Antique Wall Sconce 3aSconces are always a nice touch to finish off a hallway, mantel, bedroom, etc. We were travelling through one of our local antique / used furniture stores and saw these pretty things peeking out from under assorted pieces of …. well … stuff. Antique Wall Sconce 3a(No matter what the SO tells you, it was I, DHB, that found these wonderful things. I have TALENT!)

Anyway, with a little cleaning, some re-wiring and the replacement of the inner workings (replacement parts are available at most hardware stores – even the big box stores) these lovelies will be ready for wherever we decide to put them in our steampunk – themed house!

Old Acuqisitions: Chinese Embroidered Painting

I found this at an auction and bought it.  It’s a very chinese form OF art that combines various kinds OF embroidery along WITH silk painting.  IN this CASE, its Koi AND they’re supposed to bring all kinds of bounty to you.  I just liked it because its very pretty.  The photo here really doesn’t do it justice.  AND the Victorians indulged IN something called Chinoisre which IS a fakey kind OF Chinese-y decor so I’m very hopeful that I will be able to work it into our Seampunk decor.

Steampunk-y Clockwork Thingy

imageFor those of you who aren’t familiar with Steampunk design, gears and mechanical workings are almost a requirement.  I’m not sure what this will become but it just looked appropriate and it came, at a good price with something else that I really wanted because DHB had mentioned, more than once, how much he liked it.

Anyway, for you steampunk fans, I wave my clockwork thingy at you.  See the lovely toothy gears…  HAHA!  It is mine.  You cannot have it… However, you are permitted to be awed by it and envious of it.
